Early on in Zion I's career, the Bay Area-duo was known for their forward-thinking, progressive hip-hop sound on classic albums like, Mind Over Matter, Deep Water Slang 2.0, & True & Livin. It was on 2009's The Takeover where Zion I started to head definitively into electronic territories, though. And although Atomic Clock was a quick jump to some reggae soundscapes, 2012 saw them return to the synth-heavy production on Shadowboxing. Now back with a new EP, The Masters of Ceremony, Zion I return to take it "back to ground zero". There still is that electronic element to this EP, but what's noticeable here is Zumbi's renewed raps that have that definitive throwback feel to them.
