Damn. ZHU has been on a freaking tear the past handful of weeks, and as his next project, Genesis Series, continues to loom near, he's been dropping single after single from it. Several intriguing collaborations have come about in this way, and though we haven't posted every single one of them, we've appreciated hearing the different sides of his sound that he's sent forth. The guy has proven beyond all doubt that he's more than the one-hit wonder some had earlier pegged him as. With "Modern Conversation", his latest track (and one that sees help from both Vancouver Sleep Clinic and Daniel Johns), the burgeoning artist submits again his shadowy, dance-appropriating electronic aesthetic, but, despite the familiarity, it doesn't sound tired at all. The vocal contributions that the two other artists give it provide an eerie, ethereal, and empowering edge, and, combined with the ever-conspicuous electronic guitar that's used, the overall vibe that results is one as dark as it is curious and smooth. That's what ZHU's been known for for basically his entire young career, and it's refreshing to see that he doesn't feel he has to abandon the style here. Genesis Series is out tomorrow, October 16.
