ZHU

Faded" [Video]

Adding yet another feather to his already full cap, ZHU has come out with his first music video, and it's a striking visual accompaniment to his most popular track to date, "Faded". Like his music, the black and white images that flicker across the screen bleed a dark tension you just can't find anywhere else right now, and the trance inducing light show that's featured prominently throughout the runtime is mesmerizing. In fact, when you combine that with the rather nefarious looking silhouettes layered over the swaying crowd, the end result could easily pass as the next bond movie intro. ZHU doesn't seem to be after a brand that's shiny or clean, and this video makes that abundantly clear. However, what he has done with this visual is hammer home a very specific image that compliments the music perfectly and serves to fill out the listening experience in all the right ways. When I reviewed his debut EP, The Nightday, I mentioned that his music would be "much more at home blasting in a shadowy warehouse right before the cops show up". As it turns out, so does he, because what you're seeing is no beach party, and the atmosphere has undertones of menace which have been artfully woven in to give the video that authentic "seedy underbelly" vibe. Step into ZHU's world, and you're greeted with shadowy characters and dimly lit rooms, but if you're like us, then this is the video you were hoping for all along. Our fingers are crossed that there's a lot more where it came from.
