Ark Patrol is on his way to great things. Ever since we posted (and fell in love with) his Heroic Records-released track, "Tokyo", from his Ambition EP, we had a sense that the Berklee student was readying himself and his sound for bigger and better artistic undertakings, and with his remix of Young the Giant's "Islands" surfacing a day ago, we've proof that that's the case. The remix, keeping the spirit of the original impressively intact, doesn't seek to transplant what YTG had going initially with the effort. A decorative approach is taken by AP, as he builds around, atop, and underneath the track, and he doesn't do without some utterly fascinating ornamentations when it's all said and done. Elongated and energized vocals emerge most obviously from AP's efforts, as do surreal, dreamlike synth chords, pitch-perfect transitions, and minimal-but-effective instrumentations throughout. It's really a beautiful blend of elements he weaves into his interpretation here (though we wouldn't expect them to be any other way), and all have us eager to see what others ethereal efforts will follow.
