This is stripped-down rap at its finest. There's none of that flashy EDM influence, no brightly lit pop hooks, or even a chorus for that matter. No, this is just a solid track with well-crafted verses and a beat that does nothing but what it needs to. The intro plods along at a methodical pace, and it does a great job building up the dark tones that mesh perfectly with Young Indigo's relaxed, but precise vocals. With all the genre-melding that's happening right now in rap, it's hard to find a good old-fashioned track that focuses on execution and the poetry it delivers, but "My Mental" has done just that, and it does it extremely well. Young Indigo has done something impressive here, and if he keeps this up, we should expect to see his following grow with every subsequent track he releases.
