2014 is the year of the artistic two-piece. There's a complete abundance of the kind in the musical world, and that's due in part to the fact that the pairs have been able to produce a level of incredibly creative, totally unbounded music that we've never heard before. New York-based duo, Yellerkin, who released their folk-infused debut track about a year ago, is attempting to keep the ball rolling despite not having shown what they've been working on since the track, but now, it appears that Adrian Galvin and Luca Buccellati are ready to begin releasing some new material. The bright, unique offering, "Tools", is what's seemed to result, and it's an effort so phenomenal that it should create any and all hype these guys need. "Tools" tunnels through multiple distinct segments, some being simply cheery, while others are especially celestial. Yellerkin makes good use of airy, shining synths throughout the track, and the inspirational vocal call that's repeated often adds a pleasant, distinct touch. The percussion varies from being low-key to powerful, and the vocalist's effortless style is very enjoyable. You might be caught off-guard by the final segment of the song, which features a completely new, blindingly bright set of synths and even a different tempo, but the sudden shift in tempo is a bold move that we rarely see happen, and there's no doubt the newcomers have pulled it off with wildly entertaining success here. We're incredibly impressed with that, and with the effort as a whole, and with the particular ways that Yellerkin has constructed the release, we can't wait to hear how they'll follow.
