At this point, it's pretty safe to say that the British trio Years & Years is an act that's here to stay. Their latest single, "Take Shelter", has already achieved great success, they're going on tour with Sam Smith, and it appears that their upcoming Take Shelter EP is being released through the British powerhouse label, Polydor (and can be pre-ordered on iTunes if you live in the UK). As you may know by now, a new artist's ascension to fame is typically accompanied by a plethora of remixes, and today, French producer Onra has done the honors of kicking off the Years & Years remixes in a brilliant fashion. If you've listened to Years & Years already, than you're certainly aware of the trio's incredible vocal talent. It's apparent that Onra is aware of it, too, because he introduces his interpretation of "Take Shelter" with nothing but a captivating acapella. However, he wastes no time throwing in some warm piano chords, which gradually gain significant waviness. It's almost as if the piano chords are slowly but euphonically shifting into a disassembled state with the vocals in tow, and this occurs until a drop reveals the true course of the remix. A heavy drum kit, which sounds almost like something out of a Tame Impala song, gives the work some actual structure, but even with the percussion, the song's form remains a bit of an enigma. Disjointed synths become evident, as do plenty of slight nuances which keep the song fresh. We're absolutely blown away by Onra's ability to dissolve the original while, at the same time, maintaining its high level of listenability, and we hope all successive Y&Y remixes from this point are able to match what quality Onra's put out here with his work.
