Years & Years has been showing some serious promise over the past year. The London-based trio debuted last September with their Traps EP, following it up shortly thereafter with Real, which was released last February. We found the latter release to be particularly exciting, mostly because of its less-promoted track, "Eyes Shut", but also because of the title track, "Real". However, now we have another reason to get hyped about the group, because they've decided to drop off a brand-new single in "Take Shelter". Embracing the more upbeat side of their sound, Years & Years kick off the song with a bouncing drum kit and some fresh electronic percussion, which is quickly graced by the lead singer's soulful vocals and what sounds like a subtle organ. In the moments leading up to the chorus, a pulsing kick lies beneath fluttering electronic and echoing vocals, but then a burst of sound introduces the catchy, semi-tropical hook. The track is dance-floor-ready, but even if there's no dance floor around, it's a listen utterly enjoyable in its essence. "Take Shelter" is taken from Years and Years' forthcoming EP, pre-order on iTunes.
