Xul Zolar is a three-piece from Cologne that first grabbed our attention last year with their illuminating single, “Ilajaly”, and whose sound was as striking as their naming ability would suggest. After somewhat of a quiet spell publicly this year, the band's finally making good on their promise of a debut EP as they drop their title track, “Tides”, for which we proudly have the international premiere. The founding members of Xul Solar have voiced their affection for bands such as Talking Heads and The Smiths, and their influence can be felt with “Tides”, especially when it comes to the brooding vocals within. There is a noticeably darker atmosphere here than in their previous effort, too, with deep organ keys, pensive riffs, and an inspired array of samples that craft the dense and textured tapestry of the incredible piece. This latest track will feature alongside the rest of the recently recorded material on Xul Zolar’s Tides EP which is set for release October 16.
