Though there is an undoubted merit to working within collaborative projects, the process can sometimes have an adverse, muffled effect on an artist’s individual voice. Going the solo route provides an artist with an avenue to freely express and explore themselves, unimpeded by committee, and this—we have seen—often does bode artists well. Xan Young is the solo musical project of one such artist, who, with latest single “Fade Away”, proves he has plenty to say. We have featured Xan Young previously with his single, “Passion”, and subsequent B-side track, “Worthy”, and have praised him for the commanding sound he wields. There's a definite familiarity when listening to “Fade Away” in the context of his previously released material, but you won’t see us complaining one bit. The pulsing synths and bold bass notes he uses are punctuated perfectly by sharp percussion samples, and that creates an unmistakable sound that we (again) just can’t seem to get enough of.
