Woodlock — The Garden

The Garden

It would take a few minutes to find details about Melbourne-based indie-rock trio, Woodlock, on the web, but only a number of seconds to determine that their music is to be deeply praised. In the band’s first release in over a year, “The Garden” emits a sense of somberness that is not easily matched in the burgeoning genre of which it's a part. We’ll admit, the effort yields a hint of sorrow, but the ambitious and experimental nature of the track leaves us wanting to listen to it with our eyes on something majestic. Woodlock excels at transforming elemental components of a rock band into a work of art with little aid from the digital world. A back-and-forth guitar riff reels us in before the closely following vocals seal the deal. We had to give the track a few listens before putting our gratitude into words, honestly, as with each listen, new bits of the celestial masterpiece brought us further into the collective imagination of the band’s members—an imagination that we now seem to connect with so well.
