There has been a renaissance of sorts lately with a number of rising artists borrowing heavily from an old soul sound when it comes to creating their own. With such a deep and rich history, it can be easy to spot when an artist is being disingenuous, but, with that said, you can tell when listening to Melbourne singer WILSN that this is no mere homage, but a sincere celebration of music that means a great deal to her—a celebration that continues with latest track “Don’t Give It Up”. WILSN’s previously released singles, “Unmeet You” and “Walking For Days”, showed her passion for large, vocally driven pop songs imbued with a healthy dose of blues and soul. Her new single, “Don’t Give It Up”, the title track to her forthcoming EP, does contain many of the same elements, but amplified on a much grander scale. It is a rousing display of retro-soul again showcasing her sultry voice, and here within the effort, we get to hear soaring horn sections and catchy blues riffs accompany it. What a treat. WILSN’s Don’t Give It Up EP is due for release November 10.
