We're not sure what's more interesting—the fact that Willow Beats makes music as an uncle-niece two-piece (seriously, when have you ever heard that kind of artistic complexion?)—or the actual, hyper-eccentric electronic they together create. There's an incredible awe embedded in each, unquestionably, and we can't seem to get over just how unique their overall expression is. The way it absorbs those who wander upon it is truly special, and all throughout their back catalog—from their self-titled work, to their astonishing Alchemy EP, to their latest here, water—they've left traces of electronic fantasia to keep us wide-eyed and eared. Simply, these two know how to captivate, and with their aforementioned and today-released water on tap, they've shown just how much they're able to. Although available exclusively in New Zealand, Australia, and select European countries, water necessitates such a need to be shared that we couldn't help but bring to light the project today. To be honest, its lead-off single (and 200,000-play accruing) "Merewif" told of a work to watch when it was itself released months ago, and now with the rest of its parent projects' works in tow, we can definitely see why such thoughts were engendered. From the exotically playful "Chess", to the deep, woozy-sounding "Ramayana", to the bubbly spirits of "Guardian" and beyond, we're thrust into tantalizing atmospheres we didn't know sound could portray. Here we are, though, as much trying to make sense of what we're hearing as we are trying to enjoy the anomalistic nature of it all, and it's proving to be quite the exciting and adventurous task. We may never again cross a sound as awe-inspiring as that which Willow here displays, and for that reason alone, we're going to be keeping this latest work of theirs close in mind for a long, long time.
