After a listen to William Joseph Cook’s latest track, “Streets of Paris”, we’d certainly believe those who'd say it stepped atop the indie-rock charts. However, when we found out that Cook is just a 17-year old, we were pretty stunned. The well-developed musical prowess of the teen is blatantly apparent within the leading seconds of his effort here, paralleling the quality of any indie-rock magnate. Cook’s knack for interesting guitar riff combos is seemingly at its pinnacle here, and with a backing of solid drums and underlying vocal chops, we’ve a perfect stage for the mature-sounding vocals of the teen to shine. He calls the melody “The soundtrack of [his] Summer”, and we can absolutely see why, as the sunlit vibes in the track prove to be the light at the end of this long winter tunnel some of us have been experiencing. “Streets of Paris” is the first free single release from Cook’s upcoming You Jump I Run EP, which, we must say, contains a number of surprises on its own (in the form of subsequent hit tracks). Definitely be on the lookout for its further unraveling, then, while spending some time in the upbeat realm of the above track as well.
