White Sea's newest track opens up like any other lighthearted 80's indie-pop song does these days, but don't write it off just yet, because by about 45 seconds in, the whole thing transitions from a relatively flippant tone, to a set of grungy synth chords that bump up "Prague" from ordinary, to "must listen" status. The music eventually reverts back to its brighter influences, but by then the damage is done and you're completely hooked, just waiting for the drop to cycle through again. When it finally does make its second appearance, all the song's layers get folded again, and the build peaks right where it should. White Sea is Morgan Kibby's solo project, and in between rubbing shoulders with musical giants like M83, she has been steadily releasing great remixes for the past two years now. This second original, however, is a huge track, and it definitely marks a new stage in her solo project's rise to prominence.
