Wafia's month-old "Heartburn" was our first taste of original material from the singer, and it gave us enough reason to make magnificent conclusions about her just-released debut EP, XXIX. The Brisbane-based vocalist said she's been working at this project for over two years now, and, alongside the likes of Thrupence, Vancouver Sleep Clinic, Ta-ku and others, the cuts certainly speak for themselves. From the first to last note, even the most novice listeners can tell Wafia puts hefty doses of emotion in her work, and with what cinematic, dimly lit electronic the aforementioned producers offer to her, each track kneads together flawlessly. The Vancouver Sleep Clinic collaboration, "Fading Through", especially sees the talent of both artists unify, but all listens here are terrific, and we think Wafia she be pretty proud indeed of the work she's for so long put together here. XXIX is out now, and you can purchase it on iTunes and/or stream it all on Bandcamp.
