We're aware of trends as they relate to genres, and we recognize the fact that certain sounds aren't for everyone, or forever timeless, no matter how exemplary they are. The decline of reggae, dubstep, and gangster rap over the past couple of years personifies the falling out of favor the public has with overexposure to particular material, and there's a growing sense, despite it's relatively recent proliferation, that trap is another category experiencing its peak, and eyeing its eventual descent, in popularity. Of course, there will always be torch-bearers of the sound, however listened to or neglected it becomes, and for those artists and producers, we've the utmost respect. Unlikely Futures is one such production group (whom we've highlighted several times before) that falls into the we-don't-give-a-fuck-what-you-think-we-make-what-we-want category, punishing all perceptions of the genre they pervade with one abducting track after another, and, amazingly enough, their latest effort stays true to the tantalizing trend. It's been a couple of months since the trio has released anything new, though, to say we've any gripes about that would be ignorant on our behalf. Those with exciting sounds often take all the time they need to present it, and with "Waiting", we're able to hear every nuance the trio weaved into their work during their "absence". The track's as bassy as their former offerings, really replicating the intensity they've come to be known for, but with "Waiting", they've collaborated for the first time with Ottawa-native PYRVMXDZ to emphasize their also-iconic creeping ethereality. Emerging through the unified effort is another absolutely monstrous sound from UF, as well as from the aforementioned genre they organically endorse, and, so long as the guys grind out more of this kind of sonic might, we're happy to sustain whatever classification their works attract.
