Boston's been vying for some production recognition lately, with artists and collectives alike making some serious sonic imprints over the past couple of months. Sevnthwonder and Big Wild are two individuals who have been helping to head this surge of sound alongside other hard-working individuals, with their excitingly experimental and smoothly electronic works, and just yesterday, we received reason to add another name to the list of creative talents taking control of the city's upcoming sound. Twistyknobs, a "sound designer" from HNDMD, an independent electronic music collective and record label based out of the city, is the artist we happened fortunately upon, and his "Abject" effort took us by completely pleasant surprise. Originally featured on The Lifted Contingency's (another Boston-based collective) Lifted Cuts Vol. 1, "Abject" expresses everything we've come to love about the futuristic wave of sound that's come to characterize contemporary production. The track's firmly rooted in experimentation, with elements of jersey, juke, bass, and, of course, electronic, ingrained in the effort, and the overarching amalgamation of forward percussion, vigorously starry synths, and screwed vocals, work to etch the atmosphere into the loving lobes of our brain. Of course, an effort so intriguing isn't going to capture our ears only, and, surely enough, the aforementioned HNDMD rounded up a robust group of community-linked producers to each offer their own interpretation of the original. A dozen additional efforts results, each as diverse as the sound existing on Twistyknobs' own initial track, and from them, we've included our two favorites which you can find below. The first, a house-themed mix from Nick Garcia, will induce dancing desires, and the second, a much-faster paced translation from Zimbu Chicken Slices, will provide relief for those seeking creative D&B.
