Whether you like his style or not, there's a few facts about Travis Scott that are simply irrefutable. The guy is an incredibly talented producer, having contributed to many hit songs for much of the GOOD Music family, and he's always bringing his own unique sound to whatever he does. And though we've seen his name floating around for a few years now, it wasn't until last that the Houston-born artist dropped off his very first, highly acclaimed mixtape, Owl Pharaoh, and, in doing so, established himself as one of the most exciting up-and-coming acts within the hip-hop scene. Now, after widespread anticipation, we're receiving the second-ever official project from Scott in the form of Days Before Rodeo. Although we've taken a liking to a few different songs on the album, the clear standout to us is "Grey", and we say this for a few reasons. Firstly, the production on the track is fresh, innovative, and very unique; the instrumental is stripped down, utilizing nothing more than some refreshing percussion and hard-hitting bass at the beginning, but it eventually transforms into a piano-filled, organ-infused, synth-scattered array of euphonic chaos. The second reason behind our great appraise of the track is Travis' stellar vocal performance; he croons a catchy chorus, flows effortlessly in the verses he provides, and raps powerfully acapella near the very end of the track. "The Prayer" is our next selection from the project, and it definitely possesses a bit of a darker feel than the previously reviewed track. Travis utilizes plenty of his signature deep bass alongside a bumping drum kit, both of which lie beneath some haunting piano keys and piercing synths. We also see Travis flex some of his lyrical creativity on the track, too, as he slides in a couple clever metaphors and double entendres. "Drugs You Should Try It" is next, and it's another piece with some seriously idiosyncratic production that we really dig—this time featuring some electric-guitar plucks alongside the heavy percussion. On Days Before Rodeo, Travis Scott has managed to impress us with his incredibly deviant production and organic, unforced vocals, and we implore you to check out the work yourself if you're in the mood for his head-nod-inducing raps.
