Tom Misch — The Journey

Tom Misch

The Journey

If you're feeling just a little too tightly wound for your own good right now, then this masterpiece of an instrumental is the perfect way to loosen things up a bit. "The Journey" is the lead-off track on Tom Misch's three-track and Soulection-released White Label EP, and it's about as slick as they come. The guitar notes on the effort echo off into the distance, and the simple percussion provides an almost hypnotic backdrop for the chimey synth notes to dance across the top end of the song's sound spectrum. What really seals the deal, though, is the string section that fills in all the quiet spots, bringing yet another entrancing layer to the table. It's quite clear there are some major jazz and house influences on tap, but instead of letting the song's heritage overpower its artistic vision, Misch has harnessed the great styles and molded them into something truly impressive. So even if you're not normally into the minimalist side of experimental music, this song will still have you itching for more of its kind.
