Three months ago, we soaked ourselves in Tom Misch's ultra-smooth, jazz and hip-hop-strewn instrumental, "The Journey", that was released on Soulection's White Label, and today, we see it resurfacing with New England hip-hop artist K.B. Starr's cadence on top. It's the first of what Starr calls "vocal mixes"—his vocal renditions of tracks he feels connected to—and, honestly, it's easy to see why anyone would feel attached to Tom's instrumental. It's beautifully light and organic-sounding, and Starr's knowledge of this allows him to both croon soothingly at the beginning, and delve seamlessly into alleviating, instrumental-accommodating lines later on. It's all as smooth as the original, his additions are, and we'd say he's certainly succeeded in adding life to the initial work, as he initially intended to do. Let's hope more efforts of the kind are in store.
