By now, we think it's safe to say that Tom Misch and Carmody can do no wrong when it comes to making music. We don't care if you're a metal-head by day—one listen to the second single, "Paper Planes", from the two's EP, Out To Sea, and you'll be a downtempo-pop convert in no time. Tom's background in jazz composition and Carmody's stellar voice and songwriting skills combine to make some of the smoothest and best new music out there right now, and there's certainly a timeless quality to their work, so whether you're listening to their heartfelt hit, "The Last Song", or the funky sounds on "Atmosphere", it's hard to imagine how they could have improved upon what's already lulling your ears into a semi-euphoric stupor. "Paper Planes", their latest release, is absolutely no exception, and once again, Tom Misch destroys the competition with his impeccable production and composition skills. The track is structured loosely as a duet, and when these two get together to make music, their interwoven voices create a complexity and depth of sound that's ridiculously hard to find right now. "Planes'" beat keeps the track moving at a steady clip, so even though the layering is rather sparse and the production work is relatively simple, nothing is lost on the ears, and your attention is held from start to finish as they test the limits of how chill a song can possibly be before it turns into a slow-jam. "Paper Planes" is a beautifully built track in all with a couple extra doses of cool, and it has some of the nicest overall sounds you'll come across right now.
