We've a special respect for artists able to create brilliance without immense arsenals of complex sounds, but rather, with simple, stripped-down instrumentals and impressive vocals. Tirzah's "Malfunction" fits perfectly into the latter category, and although the UK-based songstress is new to the HD pages, her Greco-Roman affiliation instantly assured us that she's at least worth a listen. After our own first listen, though, we couldn't help but play it a few times over, not only because it's shorter in length, but mostly because of how pleasant the song is. A simple instrumental composed of spread-out electric piano chords and sparse percussion lays the foundation for Tirzah's terse vocal play, allowing the effort to use its sound sparingly, but wisely.
