We picked up a Tiny Deaths track a while back for coverage, and ever since, we've kept close tabs on their music. The duo, consisting of Claire De Lune and Grant Cutler, is a match made in indie-pop heaven, and their style of fringe-dwelling electronic music is, fun, challenging, and beautiful all the same. Their new five-track EP is some of the best car-ride music out there, and their ability to meld together subtle textures, crisp guitar work, and beautiful low-end sounds is downright impressive. Don't be fooled by the laid-back pacing, because there's plenty of power to go around, and the energy that builds up and then breaks in songs like "The Words" and "Let Me In" is simply addictive. The first two songs on the EP have already been out for a while (in fact, we already featured "The Words" about a month ago), but they haven't lost their shine, and the three new songs that round out the five-piece are killer from start to finish, so we'd advise you block off a couple minutes to listen to this all the way through. As far as new offerings go, "January" is a must-listen, but "Quantum" steals the show. TD was wise to throw that one in rotation last, because not only is it a fun song, but it's very well made, and feels like the work of an established name with years and years of experience in front of thousands of adoring fans. Tiny Deaths may just be starting out, sure, but by no means do we think their tenure will be short-lived. Keep your radar locked on these two, then, and enjoy thoroughly their debut EP.
