This track isn't particularly melodic, and it doesn't concern itself with the type of uplifting rhythms that makes other pop music offerings so catchy, but what it does have in spades is a dark beauty that will suck you in right away. It's the little things, like how vocalist Claire De Lune's vocals compliment the hollow guitar notes perfectly as they float upwards like rings of smoke which slowly dissipate, but never truly vanish. Everything about "The Words" is quiet and confident, and even when the song devolves into just some singing and a few bits of background instrumentation, you're never left wanting more than what this duo gives you. They've achieved a nice balance of layered production work, and the echo and reverb that permeates the mix works wonders when filling the the gaps of silence they so artfully place here and there throughout the song. This is only the second song from the duo, but already, we're seeing beautiful music coming from this partnership between Claire De Lune and producer Grant Cutler. These two haven't gotten much press quite yet, but we'd be willing to bet that if they keep putting out music like this, that they just might be one of the surprise hits of the year. Their style is unique enough to turn heads, but it's the execution, which is quite impressive in its own right, that will really seal the deal.
