When you check the history of some artists, you're usually met with little more than a back catalog and funny story or two. That's far from the case with 23-year-old Melbourne art director, musical producer, and visual artist, Jack Vanzet (Thrupence), though. The man has worked with the likes of Adidas, Fosters, Universal Music Group, Island Records, Warner Music, and, of course, Future Classic, who's pushing out his latest track, "Don't You Mind", in the wake of an upcoming EP entitled Lessons. Needless to say, Vanzet has been all over the artistic map, and with all the influences and inspiration undoubtedly gained from his endeavors, it's no surprise that his instrumental here is as fantastic as it is. The first track released from Lessons, "Don't You Mind", wastes no time in setting its tremendous sonic mood, and hip-hop drums and throwback instrumentations work in concert to instill a nostalgic, head-nodding beat that works wonders day and night. A sustained sample is employed after the first minute, and the human presence really factors in a calming effect on the entire track. From it, the effort plods along in a soft, methodical fashion, making hypnotic use of its light electronic undertones, and by the time you realize how much you actually appreciate it all, it's over. That's what a great beat will do to you, though, and Vanzet's "Don't You Mind" is certainly that. Look for Lessons to be released September 26th through Future Classic. Pre-order on Bandcamp.
