As fans of New Zealand-native Thomston, we have been spoiled this past year. Not only did we receive his six-song School Night EP in February, but just last week, we were treated to two brand-new tracks in as many days with the release of “Burning Out” and “Anaesthetic”. It seems that Thomas Stoneman is still in the giving mood, too, as today he drops "Salt", the latest in a string of impassioned offerings from the Kiwi. The metaphorical lyrics are strong in "Salt" as Thomston recounts the tale of a relationship that met a caustic conclusion. The bond that once grew strong was torn out by the root, and the titular track here shows so as its strewn through its initially bare sonic soil. A striking percussion cuts through the ominous hue as he declares, “Nothing will grow here now”, ushering a powerful statement on the consequences of such action. Such a heavy theme is one uncommonly explored by someone so young, but Thomston executes with aplomb. The past eighteen months have seen a multitude of male, R&B-tinged electronic-pop artists rise through the musical ether, with names like Shy Girls, Erik Hassle, and Ed Thomas all having flexed their rhythmic muscle as they took command of the genre. Thomston can now stand proudly next to these gentlemen, as he's proven that he can artistically alongside them, and with his social media pages teasing of even more music to come, we can't wait to see how much brighter the guy's star can shine.
