Thief is an up-and-coming Austrialian artist with a great sound and the makings of a classic voice. His latest original, "Closer", is a great offering that's both original and relevant. Since its release, it's already gotten the remix treatment from electronic artist, Set Mo, but this follow-up rework by Weird Togther really capitalizes on all the awesome quirks in the parent track, and, subsequently, deserving of some from us here at Hillydilly. Weird Together's remix is house-inspired through and through, but the percussion on the effort has been mellowed out a bit, and contains a great island bent. The rest of the layering is also pretty soft-edged, and contrasts nicely with the rasp in Thief's voice. A lot of the same compositional elements from Thief's version make an appearence here as well, but they've been twisted and moulded to a more light-hearted tone. When it all comes together, you've got a great remix on your hands that pays tribute to the original in all the right ways.
