It's been way too long since we last heard from The xx, but our favorite introverted rockers have finally returned with "On Hold", the first single from their long-awaited follow-up to 2012's Coexist. The track certainly signals a new direction for the act, as it's more upbeat than previous efforts and, production-wise, leans closer to Jamie xx's solo material than ever before (it samples a chopped-up segment of Hall and Oates' 1981 smash, “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)”). It's still a winning one, though, and we can all look forward to the band's aforementioned third studio album, I See You, that'll be out January 13 next year.
