The Seshen leaped to the surface of the independent music scene when they penned a deal with Tru Thoughts Records earlier this year, a deeply lauded UK label whose ranks include well-known artists and acts like Quantic & Alice Russell. Well, we’ve finally a ripe EP from the San Franciscan seven-piece, and it extends above and beyond all expectations with its well-rooted electro-pop and R&B sounds, but, too, with new sonic developments and captivating vocals to boot. You could simply remove the luminous synths from the contained tracks and still have an impressive EP, but the intertwining of the near-legendary quality sounds is what lifts up the body of work and takes it to a pinnacle level. We see them step to particular prominence on tracks like “Oblivion” and the previously released single, “The Fall”—as they entail eccentric, ethereal layers that each ultimately fuse to an ingeniously composited mix—and we’ll be the first to recommend a nice pair of headphones to listen to the efforts and the whole of the EP they're a part of, as the sonic range contained within is simply fantastic and deserving of being heard. The prime sounds of The Seshen hazily parallel the works of electronic and indie-pop old-timers Little Dragon, and we’re here to put forth our best effort to ensure that Unravel finds its moment of fame in a similar fashion. The Bandcamp release of the EP includes an intriguing video of leading track “Unravel,” a visual rendering that perfectly includes which elements personify the track best.
