THE NINJAS have been around for just over a year now, and their Queensland camp has been filling in with a more grassroots following—one we're elated to join upon hearing their sure breakout single, "Morphine." Though the group has gone largely unnoticed to date, their first single here (which was released a few months back) from their upcoming sophomore EP has us counting down the days until the larger project hits the boards. To put it straight, we've seen quite a few emotive indie-rock efforts as we've turned the corner into summer, but this one stands atop the list. "Morphine" has a feel that's almost hazy and lo-fi, but when brighter vocal sections and percussive slabs brew as it progresses, it halts its trip down a darker path and leaves us with one we'll be playing on beaches and cookouts for the next several months.
