The Landing

We Are EP [Premiere]

Today, we're ecstatic to introduce to you an artist that stands out effortlessly from his peers, and we're bringing you his brand-new EP that astonishes with its unique sound and its ingenius philosophical themes. The Landing is a solo act stemming from an apartment in Brooklyn, New York, but don't mistake him for just any new artist; he has a purpose to his music, with an aim to demonstrate and assess the struggle of finding one's place in the universe through a series of genre-bending songs. He labels his music as "space-pop", he contemplates the essence of life, and he created We Are, a stunning EP that dives into many mind-opening questions about life and humanity as a whole. The project opens with the title track, "We Are", containing a chilling introduction from Alan Watts' revered "Who Am I?" lecture. The Landing slowly builds on top of Watts' words, glossing them over with cosmic sounds until Watts is replaced by a haunting bassline that lies above an array of synths and an occasional clap. The Landing's soft falsetto asks you to "open up your eyes" and prepare for a sonic journey though humanity's unanswered questions, all overtop a base of musical brilliance. His second track, "Anxieties", is a bit lighter of a listen than the heavy introductory track, as it contains some tropical indie-pop vibes that provide an optimistic angle to his sound. Following next is "Pale Blue", a song that's an absolutely euphonic roller coaster ride through a few different segments. It opens in a soft manner with smooth synths and delicate piano keys, but quickly transitions to a fresh chorus with slick vocal chops. A somewhat tropical segment with playful vocals and remarkable percussion fills the voids between choruses, ultimately amounting to another incredibly unique tune. Next, The Landing provides us with "Strange Charm", a mellow track with a simple piano melody serving as the song's foundation. That melody is then smothered in hazy electronic percussion and a smooth bassline, resulting in an enchanting reverie of a song. Finally, the closing track, "Write It Down", arrives, and with it, a peaceful conclusion to the exceptional EP. Led by smooth guitar plucking and fresh percussion, the effort is a pleasantly soporific way to lull the project to a close. We Are will be released digitally on May 13th, but from now until then, you can stream the entire EP below.
