The Grouch & Eligh — Ashes to Ashes

The Grouch & Eligh

Ashes to Ashes

We just reviewed The Grouch's newest single in preparation for his and Eligh's trio of album releases in the coming weeks (one collaboration album, and a solo one from either individual), and we're happy to announce that all three have dropped. Perhaps fittingly, it's the collaboration project between the two artists, The Tortoise & The Crow, and while The Grouch's single doesn't make an appearance here, there are more than enough great songs to sift through. With fourteen tracks in all, this is much more substantial than your average full-length release, and when you realize that both of these artists still had enough creative juices left to compile another full album each, you can't help but be impressed. The sound arc for this album has a lot of new elements that weren't in their older projects, but after flipping through a couple of the tracks, it becomes apparent that this is still very much within the two artists' wheelhouse. They've managed to explore some new musical avenues, but by stopping short of a complete departure in execution, they've ensured that nobody who's already a fan gets alienated. There are a lot of great original beats that feature just the two main acts, but this album also features some notable guest appearances, that, while not obvious choices, ultimately work well and will definitely grab your attention. When Kreayshawn, Slightly Stoopid, and Pretty Lights lend their names to the lineup, you can't help but listen to find out exactly what that would sound like. And after listening to the work all the way through, you're left with the impression that the two rappers are still on top of their game, building anticipation for what future material they've to share. Be on the lookout for our reviews of The Grouch's and Eligh's solo albums from this 3-album release soon.
