The Donnies The Amys

Drive You Home

The Donnies The Amys' track here has already circled the block a couple of times and racked up a decent amount of plays on SoundCloud, but, unfortunately, we missed it here at Hillydilly its first few times around. We have a hunch that its potential for growth hasn't maxed out just quite yet, though, and we'd like to help change that by presenting it here today. "Drive You Home" is a quiet affair by the the pair, and the music on it has an understated quality to it that we instantly fell in love with upon first listen. It's hard to make slow jams replay-able and shareable, but "Drive You Home" sort of feels like Coldplay went lo-fi and got in touch with their inner garage band, and you can't argue with that. The end result is a track that will suck you in with its honesty and keep you hooked until the last note does away, and the emotion within is nothing to sneeze at it, either. The vocal work has a desperate edge to it that is tempered by the low volume, but it always feels just on the edge of some powerful outburst where you're taken aback by all the pent-up energy that's been released. The song never does blow up, though, instead electing to stick to its guns with its muted instrumentals and plodding beat. Now, that doesn't mean we're bummed; in fact, it's the duo's particular ability to keep your ears on the edge of their proverbial seats with the fewest number of sounds that's so impressive to us, and as the song progresses, all the potential energy is transferred into the music that you do hear. "Drive You Home" turns into a very powerful piece of music despite the fact that that format would lead you to believe otherwise, and we implore you to travel through the track if you're looking for something to round out that playlist you throw on whenever you feel like contemplating life as the rain rolls down your bedroom window. (Of course, you can listen to it at other times and be perfectly content with it, too.) "Drive You Home" is taken from Donnie and Amy's new EP, Stay the Same, which you can buy on iTunes.
