The Code

9.46

You’ve probably stumbled upon The Code’s work at some point in your music escapades, and if you haven’t already realized, they seem to be taking an excursion through some unmapped territories in the sonic sphere, as we saw a couple months ago with “Her”. With only two tracks under their belt, the duo has initiated several discussions that revolve around the elucidation of their sound, and now with “9.46", inserting their music into a single category or genre would be downright absurd. Minimalism is an art form we are very fond of at HD, and at the onset of this track, you might be perplexed as to what expect in its progression. It starts off with a sedating drumbeat that contains a few crackles, knocks, and congas, only to smoothly evolve by a sonorous bassline and the droning, soulful voice of the lead vocalist. The crooning vocals will surely have you immersed instantly, and a sudden sweep makes way for an elegant chorus that oscillates and encourages further percussive inclusions. The piece is unpredictable in a distinct manner, as the drums are turbulent, the vocals are exquisite and enticing, and the overall progression is nothing short of peerless, but it all coalesces into a listen we'd not want any differently.
