Tep No's debut, "Promises", sent waves around the finger-on-the-pulse, new-music-obesessing circles online, and rightfully so. The track encompassed what massive potential the Toronto-based producer and vocalist has at his disposal, and left us fiending for more excellence from him. We're happy to say we've been satisfied today, though, as "Missing Winter", his latest, packs a lot of the same great sounds into the mix that "Promises" does. It's a lot more laid-back than the former, and has a beat that's loaded with funk to spare, but give it a little time to soak in, and you'll realize that there's a lot more going on under the surface. Tep No's voice has a soft, raspy quality to it that might remind you of somebody like Mike Posner, but he's paired his vocal chords with a completely different type of music, the end resulting is a unique blend of house, indie-pop, and R&B that will make you wonder why you haven't heard of him before. In all fairness to Tep No, he's only been putting out music under this moniker for a month or so, so the success he's had so far is pretty darn impressive. However, as long as he keeps putting out music of this caliber into the foreseeable future, it's only going to get better for him from here on out. His first original single rocketed on the Hype Machine charts, and this track looks like it may have the chops to do the same.
