When starting out as a band, it's absolutely difficult to manage expectations when it comes to exposure of a debut track. Sometimes they take off, and sometimes they don't—even if the quality is certainly there. For London's Temptress, a brand-new act just making their reveal today, obtaining such exposure shouldn't prove to be so hard, however, for their debut track here, "Lies", is one that's going to appeal to quite a lot of people, we do believe. The sultry opening bars of the track initially allude to a gorgeous, R&B-tinged pop number (which is impressive in its own right), but then, out of nowhere, its horn stabs come hitting like a cheap left hook. It is a pleasing, yet incredibly deceptive misdirect utilized by the pair, and it's one that ultimately transforms the charming single into a strikingly sophisticated array of dark electronic-pop. It's a ploy about as impressively dynamic as it gets, and we absolutely can't wait to see if the pair utilizes similar sonic tactics in their efforts ahead. “Lies” will be released through Machine Records, the new in-house label from Machine Management (Years & Years, AlunaGeorge), and it will also receive a special radio premiere next week as well, so stay tuned for that.
