This is straight-up R&B, but even if you're not an avid fan of the genre, we'd be willing to bet that there's still something in "Journey" that will suit your tastes. Tamara Madison is a new face hailing from Toronto, Canada, and although she's managed to fly under our radar the past couple of years, her new three-track EP, Relapse, was too good for us to pass up on. All three tracks are great, but "Journey" has a certain stripped-down vibe that lets the subtle rasp in Tamara's voice do its thing and really grab your attention. There's a fine balance with songs like these when it comes to the music itself. Too much flash, and all that rich minutiae in the vocals get lost in the mix; too little, however, and you risk the music sounding like some sort of bedroom recording without the proper tools to craft a proper canvas for the lyrics. "Journey" strikes this balance perfectly, and if Tamara's future work continues to display this level of sophistication, then her future in music looks bright indeed.
