As is expected of us writing about music all day every day, our brains tend to get a bit tired, and as a result of this, we sometimes fail in our initial realizations of the quality of certain material. The debut track, "The Dutchess", from London-based producer, TĀLĀ, is one of those missteps from us. When we heard the track last week, we didn't quite hear the appeal, but after a weekend of some much needed downtime, "The Duchess" sounds completely different. "The Duchess" is an ever-evolving effort that unveils itself in a steady succession as you journey through it. From the punchy percussion, to the unorthodox vocal samples and edgy electronic, this track is like a movie that starts out slow, but gets better as it goes along. "The Duchess" is only the beginning for TĀLĀ , and you can no doubt expect more sonic ingenuity to follow.
