We first familiarized ourselves with Manatee Commune’s sound over nine months ago, and there’s no question we were captivated almost right away with the slowed-down, heavily alluring vibes emitted by him. Today, Grant Eadie (MC) is further exhibiting his progress as a producer by providing assistance on Susy Sun’s cover of The Kooks’ eight-month-old “Bad Habit”, and the wholly Seattle affair certainly churns out a flawless result—from the exclusive take on the vocals by Sun to the completely altered downtempo backdrop. Overhauling a track from The Kooks is certainly no walk in the park, and it all begins on the vocal front which Susy Sun salutes delightfully—gently delivering the heartfelt lyrics with her highly delicate, slightly esoteric voice. The sonic environment is a focal point, too, as MC employs re-echoing chords to help those vocals perforate further, and easygoing drums providing another zestful edge lets the whole piece carve up a sweet persona all its own.
