We found Street Joy a while back when we were tipped off by a friend of the site recommending we listen to "Same As Me". We were instantly taken aback by the way they artfully blended brazenly lo-fi instrumentation with a stripped-back sound all their own. It had all the makings of a huge hit, but while that song in particular hasn't taken off just yet, they've released a slew of other singles afterwards that have garnered increasing amounts of attention. With songs like "Moon" and "Wrong Cloud" underneath their belts now, they're well on their way towards breaking free from the ever-expanding pack of unknown garage bands into the more rarefied air occupied by those who's star is unmistakably on the rise. "You" is the latest offering from their upcoming debut EP (out later this month), and it's got everything in it that's gotten the band attention thus far. It's still quite lo-fi, but not in the way that would make you think it was meant to cover up some musical shortcoming or lack of talent. The track is well metered, and it carries their signature sound on its shoulders quite easily as it meanders along and takes its time winding though the runtime. These guys are experts at making cool music, and you'd be hard-pressed to find somebody who couldn't appreciate "You" on one level or another. Only time will tell if their EP is up to the same kind of snuff as their effort here, but with ones like this, there's no reason to believe it won't be nearly as awesome.
