SPEAK is on a roll right now. Their last single, “Be Reasonable, Diane”, was a giant of an indie-rock track, and since its release, it’s built up a play count well into the six figures, as well as critical reception and the envy of every up-and-coming group around. The track alone was enough to assuage our fears that the band wouldn’t be able to top the success of their previous single, “Peaks”, but then out of the blue, they release this little gem of a music video for their newest single, featuring what just might be their most sophisticated sound to-date. “Weiss + This Much I Know” represents a big departure from a lot of their previous work, but it’s a resounding success nonetheless, and a song that we have absolutely no qualms about supporting. That being said, it’s the video that really steals the show on this one. The visuals start out like any other abstract piece of cinematography, but give it a couple of seconds, and you’ll quickly realize it’s actually a video inspired by a road trip of theirs. We talked with the band to get the backstory on the footage, and were informed that this video was the product of their drive from Austin, Texas, to go play a show in Madison, Wisconsin. It’s filmed like an impressionistic painting, full of movement and out of focus, but the end result is an intimacy that makes you feel as if you’re SPEAK’s fifth member. It’s not the flashiest piece of audiovisual out there right now, but it’s honest, intriguing, and refreshingly authentic, and we're happy to premiere the experience as a result.
