Kafka Tamura, a three piece indie pop group with a rather cryptic band name (unless you happen to be a Murakami aficionado), has just released their first track, and it's everything a breakout single should be. Comprised of sixteen-year-old Emma Dawson on vocals, and Gabriel Häuser/ Patrick Bongers on production duties, Kafka Tamura has created a slow powerhouse of a song, replete with an unlikely maturity very reminiscent of something from Lorde's new Album, Pure Heroine. With a well composed musical foundation, Emma Dawson's voice is free to stretch its legs at times, but the true chemistry really happens about a minute in when she settles into a sort of pseudo-rap rhythm. Forsaking her natural range, she instead opts for a more spartan form of lyric delivery, and the juxtaposition of her almost conversational tone with the beautiful production work makes for a truly standout release.
