Police

Vanic's remix of the track here has been out for a while now, so the song's sound doesn't come as a total surprise, but it's still nice to hear the original untouched version (and also to know that the band [which has been getting a lot of traction from their first single], will be able to follow it up with more great material in the future). Give "Police" a listen, and you'll instantly notice some resemblance to "Reverse", but the real clincher is the fact that SKW seems to have folded in some similarities to their recent covers as well. Yes, most of that is because SKW, like a lot of other bands, have a signature sound that they cultivate, but, with only one single out so far, it was their renditions of "California Love" and "Juicy" that really bridged the gap between "Reverse" and this next crop of songs. It's definitely cool to see a band's sound develop smoothly as they drop new material, and that's exactly what's happening with these guys as they ready for their album release on the 23rd of the month. Their newest track here highlighted, "Police", still has that hard edge which everybody fell in love with when the members popped up on radars a while back, but this time around they've tempered it a bit with some synth work and quicker pacing. It's a nice transition, and it bodes exceptionally well for the rest of the album. It looks as if they'll be able to easily sidestep worries that there won't be enough auxiliary substance to back up the success of "Reverse", too, and with such a defined sound they've seemed to commit to, it looks as if SKW is about to have a really good year. If you live in Los Angeles, make sure to catch SKW playing Bootleg Hi Fi tonight with Maudlin Strangers. Tickets are available now!
