Among the myriad classifications of modern musicians, there are two that, over the past couple of years, have proliferated in their distinguishing effects: those who make songs, and those who make albums. Many can throw together excellent individual songs, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but there's only a minority of musicians that can actually compose an entire album that flows effortlessly from start to finish, that escorts the listener through an emotional experience, and that communicates a primary point or message. In today's giant mass of musical mayhem, the most respected artists are (usually) those who have constructed a seamless album, and, recently inducted into that class of individual capability is SOHN. Although four songs from Tremors were released as singles prior to this point, we urge you to grab the nicest set of speakers or headphones you can get your hands on and simply listen all the way through the whole effort here. SOHN's meticulously crafted masterpiece hurls you through moments of emotional turbulence, serene beauty, devastating melancholy, and stupefying awe, all narrated by SOHN's breathtaking falsetto. "Tempest" opens the aforementioned characteristics in memorable fashion; a pattern of solemn effected vocals is repeated, and with each repetition, another element is added, with the process continuing until the song blossoms fully into a stirring ballad. However, as hard as we may try, our words just don't give justice to the incredible introductory track, so be sure to give it a good listen. "Lights", another of our favorites, displays SOHN's mastery of percussion, as well as his ability to summon massive waves of bass and harmonic sets of strings. Following next is "Veto", SOHN's confident declaration that he refuses to be played. Instead of being crushed, he responds by conjuring up a euphonic storm of innovative bass, precisely positioned percussion, and majestic synths. SOHN later concludes his epic with "Tremors", an absolutely massive track that showcases all aspects of his greatness. Overall, you'll have to form your own opinion on the album, since all art is subjective. However, Tremors astonished all of us at HD (to the effect that we already consider it to be one of the best albums of the year), and we truly hope that you find as much enjoyment in it as we did.
