There's a plethora of musical patterns we'd like to see part from our awareness, but the recent influx of remixed SOHN tracks is not one of them. It's admittedly difficult to distance one's self from the alluring vocals in SOHN's possession, so we're not going to fault producers for diving into them, at least, not until we come across an effort disgracing the original. Thankfully, that doesn't happen with Detroit producer Ancient Mermaids' interpretation of SOHN's recent "Red Lines" single. He elects not to cake on layer after unnecessary layer of acoustic depth, and instead takes a refreshingly minimalist approach with his experimentation, providing casually fitting synths and low levels of bass to enhance, rather than distort, the original. The result is a fantastically mellow listen suitable especially for the evening hour.
