Finding new music of this caliber feels like finding a hundred dollar bill in the parking lot (if you're not already rich, that is). Damien Everett (So Much Light) is from Elk Grove, California, and it's very possible you haven't heard about him yet, but we're pretty sure we just located a prime candidate for the coveted title of "next big thing" in indie music. If you poke around the internet a bit, you'll find some videos of him putting on a clinic in his bedroom with just a guitar and a mic, but the real reason he's getting Hillydilly coverage is because his brand-new EP, Summoner, just came out a couple days ago. The EP has four songs on it, and each one is brilliant in its own right, so were not going to play favorites here; rather, we're just going to tell you to take an extra second to just listen to all of them. The first track is called "Stomping Ground", and its got a simple guitar solo that quickly develops into an immensely infectious chorus, complete with lyrics that are both clever and perfectly delivered. It's the kind of song athat makes you want to learn the lyrics so you can sing along, and we're not exaggerating thato ne bit. Next up is "Summoner", the EP's namesake. It's a bit darker, but once again, the chorus and subsequent verses are downright addicting, especially when you realize they've been paired with such a unique sonic backdrop. The last two efforts on the EP are "Artificial Sweeteners" and "Flagship". Both are just as strong as the first two, and the slow-jam production work is some sort of weird hybrid made up of about 18 different types of music. Yes, that sounds a little excessive, but despite what you might think, it actually works, and it works wonderfully. Keep your eye on this guy, therefore, because if his music gets in front of the right ears, he's not going to be flying under anybody's radar much longer.
