It seems that Small Black has slipped under our radar thus far, but they’ve been making moves in the synth-pop sphere for some time, and now we’ve the lead single, “Boy’s Life”, from their forthcoming LP to finally push them to the surface. Both the sample used and the album art here are garage finds, but the sound that the headliner carries feels anything but vintage. It’s a new-era, booming slab of house-infused electronic that works its way up as it comes to the surface. Through employing a simple snare and kicker combination throughout, the track’s percussive backbone provides a constant groove for its synths to shine. The elements coalesce nicely, and they're indicative of some promising sounds to come from the group, whose album hits shelves this October.
