Portland's Shy Girls has become a pretty steady source of ultra-smooth, R&B-inspired, indie-pop over the past year or so, and his music has not only won over tons of new fans, but earned him some major respect as well. Saux artfully builds atop that platform with his remix of "When I Say I Love You", and turns the pillowy soft sounds of the original into a track with an even more muted vibe. The synths sound like they're being played in a thick fog, and it's almost impossible to find a sound anywhere in the track where the hard edges weren't toned down beneath layers of filtering. Artists often shoot for a completely different sound when they remix a track, but Saux definitely chalked up a win on this one by going against the grain, and simply looking to where he could amplify the merits of the original. This definitely isn't a high-octane offering, but I don't think that was ever the plan. Spin this remix if relaxing is objective number one, and you'll have no problem making that happen.
