After listening to the introduction, SoulCircut's remix of Shivum Sharma's "Flicker" seems like it's going to stay put in the ultra-stripped-down experiemtnal zone where the sound stays small and intimate, but if you give it a couple more seconds, it'll surprise you. As the song builds, what was once a reserved experiemtnal track, turns into an R&B-infused melody complete with echoey island textures and a sweeping melody that really widens the sound of the song. With every second that passes, things get more and more expansive, and by the time "Flicker" starts to wind down, you feel as though the music is moving across some wide-open landscape with the horizon in the distance. This one doesn't try to create volume with big beats or shouted synths, but what it does do is make perfect use of transitions and echo to create a sense of scope and grandeur that outstrips a lot of the more blunt attemps to do the same by other producers. Give SoulCircuit's rendition a spin, and enjoy all the delicate fine-tuning he put into this work of his.
